Over the past three years, there have been numerous breakthroughs after the introduction of Transformers in the field of natural Language Processing (NLP). In addition, there is an increasing awareness, discussion, and debate on the harms caused as a byproduct of advances in NLP research and artificial intelligence technologies. The last year in the field of NLP Ethics ended with the controversial firing and the new year started with the publication of the most awaited Stochastic Parrots paper at facct 2021 by Timnit Gebru et al. I appreciate the efforts of the authors to trigger the alarm.

In this post, I am going to introduce the Learning Recipe concept and explain its advantages and how to create your own learning Recipe. As the name suggests, it’s a short list of available resources that will help you better learn the concept or topic. My learning style is to create my own short notes when learning new concepts. This always helps me to understand the concept clearly, and it is useful to revise that topic later.

What I love about being in data science is that I get to learn new…

How does citation bias impact fairness in research publications?

Image

The current pace of research and technological development has led to an exponential increase in the number of research publications. In this digital information age, researchers are facing the challenging problem of finding the right citations for the document to be published. Citations are written to back up research claims and give correct credit to past and state-of-the-art research. Citation selection is becoming a daunting task with an increasing number of research publications every year. …

When summer sowing season started last year, my son was obsessed with planting any seed he would find in the kitchen. We sow corn, peaches, apples, pineapple, strawberries, chickpeas, different types of beans and even potatoes. In April, he saw me removing an avocado seed, and he immediately asked Google how to plant avocado. After we watched the video, we followed the procedure and kept the seed in the water.
